The Town of Orland was incorporated in 1800, formerly known as "Plantation #2" on the east side of the Penobscot River.
As of the year 2020, the population was 2,221 people.

2/1/23 Special Town Meeting Referendum Results: *~Voting Results~* The Special Town Meeting Referendum votes have been tallied, and Article 2, to build a new Fire Department, passed with 259 'Yes' votes, 105 'No' votes, and 1 blank ballot was cast.
