To Orland Residents
RE: Fiber Optic Build Project 2025
It does not seem possible that it has been a year since Maine Connectivity Authority announced that Fidium Fiber was awarded a grant for the Town of Orland fiber optic build project! It is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
REMINDER: Please pre-register your physical address so Fidium Fiber can add a “drop” to your residence when building out the network on the poles. A drop is the line from the pole to your house or business. It is not an obligation for service, and you will still need to reach out to choose a service level once the network is complete. The drop expedites your installation because that first step will have been completed.
How to pre-register:
- You must have an email address for the purpose of receiving updates and for scheduling the final in-house installation. If you do not have an email address, then perhaps you can ask a family member or friend to help with this.
- Go to https://www.fidiumfiber.com and click on the ‘AVAILABILITY’ button in top right corner. Type in your physical address. If no address is shown, call 866-925-0574.
- It will ask for your contact information: name, email, phone number.
- Then check the box for the expedited installation. This ensures the ‘drop’ gets installed while they are running the lines.
While on the website, there is a ‘frequently asked questions’ page https://www.fidiumfiber.com/faqs,
which has helpful information such as how fiber optic internet works, as well as its many benefits.
This is your opportunity to get a FREE installation for the fastest and most reliable internet service on the market. Before you say you are NOT interested, you may want to think about having the fiber optic lines installed as a future option for your children, grandchildren, or the “someday” owner of your home.
The Orland Broadband Committee (OBC) has collaborated with Butler Smythe, the driving force behind the installation of fiber optic internet on the Blue Hill Peninsula. He has a dedicated website https://www.pubfiber.org with a wealth of knowledge about all things fiber. The website offers a Q&A page. He has kindly offered the OBC a place to post updates and events relating to Orland’s build project and upcoming National Digital Equity Center (NDEC) classes. We urge you to explore the website.
You are welcome to email the OBC co-chairs at [email protected] if you have further questions. This is a dedicated email address for the OBC.
Thank you!
From the Orland Broadband Committee
