Community Safety: Essential Information

We urge all residents to take the following steps to ensure safety and help us respond effectively:

  • Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Ensure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and test them regularly. If you or someone you know needs help checking, replacing batteries, or installing detectors, please contact us. While we cannot always provide the alarms, we will assist where we can.
  • Visible House Numbers: Please help us find you quickly in an emergency by ensuring your address is clearly visible. Simple reflective stickers (3–4 inch minimum) with your house numbers, mounted on the side of your mailbox or on a sign at the end of your driveway, are very effective.

Burn Permits

Free Burn Permits are available at two locations:

  • Orland Transfer Stations (180 Gray Meadow Road, Orland, ME 04472) during these hours: Wednesday & Saturday (8:00 AM–4:00 PM) and Sunday (9:00 AM–3:00 PM).
  • Online for free at www.maineburnpermit.com.
