The Town of Orland was incorporated in 1800, formerly known as "Plantation #2" on the east side of the Penobscot River.
As of the year 2020, the population was 2,221 people.
Special Town Meeting 9/26/2024: The Town of Orland will hold a Special Town Meeting regarding an ordinance entitled “Emergency Ordinance Establishing a Moratorium on the Transfer, Abandonment, Removal, or Unregulated Release of Impounded Waters of Dams” and appropriating $1,200 dollars of American Rescue Plan Act (“ARPA”) funds to be used for a handicap accessible entrance to the Orland Town Office. Meeting will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 6:00pm at the Orland Community Center, 21 School House Rd, Orland, ME 04472.
